English Language Center (ELC) 语言中心
The English Language Center (ELC) at Teda International School is an immersion-style program for students who need to strengthen their English competency skills prior to entering the mainstream instructional program at TIS. The ELC program also provides support for students in the mainstream through individualized pull-out and after school programs. ELC classes aim to enroll no more than 12 students per section to ensure adequate one-on-one attention and so that students enjoy maximum opportunity to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English.
Early Childhood Academy (ECA) 幼教中心
The Early Childhood Academy at TIS is comprised of 4 levels. Children between the ages of 10 months and 30 months are eligible to join the PreK1 or PreK2 classes which meet Monday through Friday from 8am to 12pm (full day available). At these levels, children are provided a clean, safe, and stimulating play environment staffed by qualified day care providers. For those children who are too big for PreK2 but who are not quite big enough for Kindergarten, TIS offers the PreK3 and PreK4 levels. In these levels, children continue to learn through play but are introduced to a few more structured activities designed to teach them skills that will be important as they enter Kindergarten. Students in the ECA enjoy access to their own Library, Science Room, Sand and Water Room, Computer Lab, and eating area. Each year, demand for slots in Teda International School’s Early Childhood Academy typically exceeds availability.
Primary Program 小学
TIS Primary program (grades K-5) has a focus on nurturing and developing a child's potential linguistically, academically, socially and emotionally. School wide learning goals combine with our virtues program to focus PS students on becoming global citizens of good character. Students complete a program of study in English, Math, Social Studies and Science as core learning areas. Students who enter the school with limited English ability participate in language classes taught by a team of ESL teachers. They are also supported in the classroom through differentiated learning and support staff. In addition to core subjects, students participate in Chinese, PE, Art, Music and Technology classes. An afterschool program on four afternoons of the week provides a wide range of elective choices including sports, arts and crafts, reading and games.
Teda International School’s Secondary program (grades 6-12) is a college preparatory program based on the AERO curricular standards (American Education Reaches Out). English is the language of instruction at all academic levels. Throughout the Secondary program，students are required to complete coursework in the four core content areas (English, mathematics, social studies, and science). In grades 6 through 8, students study Art, Music, PE, Health and Computers in addition to their core subjects. In grades 9 through 12, students may elect to take Advanced Placement (AP) courses and/or non-AP electives such Concert Band, Choir, Studio Art, Drama, Athletics, Information Technology, Global Studies, Spanish, Korean, and/or Chinese. TIS also maintains a partnership with K12, which is a U.S.-based provider of online coursework. Through this partnership, Secondary students have the opportunity to pursue additional coursework.
Located in Tianjin, China, TIS offers internet ready classrooms equipped with computers, projectors, and interactive whiteboards; wireless access, a full service cafeteria, a library, four computer labs, a theatre & music area with individual practice rooms, science laboratories, a gymnasium, practice field, and indoor and outdoor playground areas.
TIS follows a program of study based on the AERO curricular standards (American Education Reaches Out). English is the language of instruction at all academic levels. Beginning in grade 9, Advanced-Placement (AP) classes are available to students as are other non-AP electives in a variety of areas. At the end of the 2012-2013 school year, ninety-nine (99) AP exams were administered to TIS students in 12 subject areas. All TIS graduates successfully enter colleges and universities either in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia or their home countries.
